Janggi Online - Korean Chess Strategy Game

History of Janggi

Janggi (Korean Chess) originated from Chinese Xiangqi and developed into a unique Korean board game over centuries. With its distinctive palace system and cannon mechanics, Janggi has been a beloved strategic game in Korea for over 500 years, now enjoyed by players worldwide.

How to Play

Janggi is played on a 9x10 intersection board. Each player controls 16 pieces including the General (King), Advisors, Chariots, Cannons, Horses, Elephants, and Soldiers. The goal is to checkmate the opponent's General.

Strategy Tips

Key strategies: Control the center early. Activate your Chariots on open files. Use Cannons wisely as they need pieces to jump over. Protect your General with Advisors. Choose formations based on your play style.

Terminology

Janggun: Check. Woe-tong: Checkmate. Palace: 3x3 area where General and Advisors move. Formation: Starting arrangement of Horses and Elephants. Bikjang: Face-to-face Generals resulting in draw.

Features

Play Janggi online: Quick Match, AI with 3 difficulty levels, private rooms, real-time chat, fo rating system. Formation selection available. No download required.

Comparison

Unlike Western Chess, Janggi features Cannons that must jump to move, blockable Horses and Elephants, and a Palace system. The river concept is removed, making it distinct from Chinese Xiangqi.
